On Board and Train:

“Mark Siebel is truly top-notch! He has worked with three of our dogs, most recently our dog Knightley, and we couldn’t recommend him more highly. We’ve used his board-and-train services and have been extremely impressed with how calm, well-adjusted, and happy our dogs are when they return home.

What we appreciate most is how genuinely Mark treats our dogs like family, which makes leaving them in his care so much easier. He provides a thorough assessment, clear follow-up instructions, daily updates and photos, and ongoing support after training. He is also quick to answer questions and offer practical solutions to continue the progress at home.

Mark takes the time to understand each dog’s individual needs and goals, and he builds on the progress you’ve already made rather than undoing it. If you’re considering training or board-and-train services to help your dog become an even more enjoyable member of your family, you’ll be very grateful you chose Mark!”

“I highly recommend Mark Siebel for dog board and train. I boarded my three-month-old Bichon, Buttons, with him and was thrilled with both her care and her progress. During her stay, Mark helped Buttons become house-trained and leash-trained while gently managing her energetic puppy behavior. He was attentive to her individual needs, patient in his approach, and clearly committed to helping her learn in a positive, nurturing environment.

Mark also communicated consistently and sent adorable photos and videos, which reassured me that Buttons was happy, safe, and enjoying time with other dogs. His reliability, clear communication, and genuine care made the entire experience easy and stress-free. I had complete peace of mind leaving Buttons with him and would gladly recommend Mark to anyone seeking attentive, trustworthy dog training and boarding.”

On aggression and reactivity:

“When we came to Mark, we were told that Broly was aggressive & reactive… It’s been 5 months since we began working with Mark, and all I can say is life has been a night and day difference with Broly. Not only has Broly’s obedience/behavior improved, we can take him out in public, around other dogs, and even have pup-dates without fear.”

— Gaby Loretto, Google review

On separation anxiety:

“Mark was a godsend for my dog’s separation anxiety. My corgi/cattle dog mix would bark, drool, and destroy the blinds when left alone. Now after 4 weeks of in-home training with Mark, we just left him alone, loose for almost 2 hours with no signs of anxiety or destruction!”

— Kathryn DeSandro, Google review

On a large, anxious rescue dog:

“We adopted a very large 110lb, very anxious young(ish) lab… We went from this dog growling and barking at people… to a much calmer, controlled dog. We literally thought we would never be able to take this dog out in public and he now goes on social visits to Petsmart, Home Depot, etc.”

— Barkergrl C, Google review

On a giant breed and family structure:

“We have a Saint Bernard/Poodle mix, and we were honestly at a loss before working with him. From the very first session, he brought a sense of calm, structure, and confidence, not just to our dog, but to us as owners too. He didn’t just ‘train’ our dog, he taught us how to communicate with him.”

— Temple Stewart, Google review

On multi-pet households:

“I originally contacted Doggie Steps to help socialize my dog to cats. Not only did Mark successfully help with that, but also provided training for other behaviors. He was always prompt, professional, and had a wonderful way with my dogs. His style is firm, caring, and positive.”

— Dominique Barba, Google review

On families with kids:

“He helped us train our 5 month old mini Aussie; from the first session we had with him, we saw immediate improvement. Over a few weeks, he improved our confidence in handling our dog and we feel like better dog owners as a result. Mark is also great with kids and kept them involved with all aspects of training.”

— Christopher Robbins, Google review

On a difficult, specific problem solved fast:

“We were having lots of issues with her listening, barking, sitting and basic commands. Her biggest issue was that she refused to go anywhere near the car… By week 5, our puppy was very well mannered, she listened to our commands, much easier to handle. And the big news is that she began jumping in and out of our car!!!!”

Endorsements:

Mark at Doggie Steps has been a skilled and knowledgeable dog trainer for Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue (DLRR). He has been on our list of recommended trainers for many years and many of our adopters have used him with great success. In addition, Mark has helped several of our Labs and their fosters who needed some help with specific behaviors. He was instrumental in helping Mozi with her anxiety and teaching his foster how to work with her successfully. We look forward to working with Mark in the future.

— Patricia, Trainer Coordinator, Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue (DLRR)

I recommend Mark and his Doggie Steps training program to anyone who asks. It is a night and day difference to see dogs come into Heartstrings daycare after training with him. Plus, the pup parents are just as grateful as we are for Mark, especially with his “positive reinforcement, NO shock collars or choke chain” training approach. Thank you for all the hard work you do! I’ve recommended several people outside of heartstrings who are not customers but friends and family. Thanks for making these crazy dogs a lot easier to handle for all of us!

— Jaclyn Bell Anderson, Owner, Heart Strings Pet Resort

I have had the pleasure of working with Mark for over 15 years, both as his veterinarian and through attending some of his training classes. He is knowledgeable, dedicated, and clearly has a genuine passion for helping dogs and their families. He does an excellent job of promoting positive relationships and supporting the human-animal bond.

Over the years, I have also seen many of the clients he has referred to my practice, and they have consistently been very pleased with his services. I would highly recommend Mark to anyone looking for a caring, knowledgeable, and trustworthy dog trainer.

Great experience! Taught us a lot with our dogs on our private training lessons with two dogs! Our 2 year old (resource guarding issues) and our 6 month old puppy. Every class was a good time, with good information and personalized guidance. Remember you have to do your homework to see improvement! It pays off! Great pricing as well, very affordable for longer term gain!

We highly recommend Mark for both dog training and pet sitting! He has worked with our dogs, Piper (7) and Goose (2), and has been wonderful with both of them. Mark gave us clear, practical guidance for Piper’s barking and Goose’s jumping, along with leash walking and multiple commands for Goose. His training advice is easy to understand and continue at home. We also use Mark for dog sitting and love his convenient pick-up and drop-off service. He communicates with us regularly by text while the dogs are with him, so we always know they’re happy and well cared for. Mark is reliable, knowledgeable, and great with our dogs. We highly recommend him!

We have worked with Mark training two of our dogs. Our older dog Teddy worked with Mark in his group training class over a decade ago at 6 months old. It was the perfect fit for him and set us off on a strong start. He is now 10 years old and is an amazing dog! He's retained his training and is such a joy to our family. We booked private training with our 1 year old chihuahua / poodle mix who was showing some signs of anxious repetitive barking with new people. Although he mainly struggles with males, he took very well to Mark and was immediately comfortable working with him. Mark has helped us so that we can enjoy social outings and have better ways of communicating with our dog in stressful moments. We are grateful for the support and how Mark has helped us with both our Teddy (10 yrs) and Benji (1 yr)!

Mark was just who we needed! Our goal was for our 2 rescues to learn to get along. By the 3rd class they were BFF's. Not only do they get along but mark taught them, and us, a lot of discipline techniques. Highly suggest him!

We have a 4-month-old puppy and brought Mark in for private in-home training. He was fantastic. He worked directly with our puppy on commands, how to correct misbehavior, and proper leash walking, and he took the time to teach us how to reinforce everything consistently. You can tell he genuinely knows what he’s doing. We’re already planning to bring him back for advanced training as our puppy gets older. Highly recommend.

I really wasn’t sure what could be done with my French Bulldog but Mark was patient with me, and Tess is so much calmer and less reactive now! We are both so much happier on our walks! If you are thinking about training it’s the best investment and Mark is your guy!

This is our second beagle and we decided to do it right this time. We had Mark come and do private lessons and it was definitely worth the money. There were days when we were at our wits end with our crazy beagle’s behavior, but Mark was able to put things into perspective and show us the progress that was being made. Our puppy now is safer, is much better behaved, and our sanity is restored. We are so grateful to have invested in the Doggie Steps program.

Mark was an amazing trainer. From the very first visit we had new tools to implement and saw a marked improvement in both our dogs. He made a point to involve our kids in training sessions, making it fun for them as well. We have the tools and training now to enjoy our dogs instead of feeling like we are always managing their behaviors. Highly recommend!

We had an excellent experience working with Mark. He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. Our German Shepherd was very timid and anxious, and Mark gave us clear, practical advice that made a real difference. His training helped us tremendously with pack reordering and addressing resource guarding between our dogs. We saw noticeable improvements and felt much more confident handling situations that used to be stressful. Mark truly understands dog behavior and explains things in a way that’s easy to apply at home. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful, effective trainer!

I just finished training with Mark. We needed help with pulling on the leash and introducing other dogs. Mark brought his dog and we slowly introduced and built confidence each week. In a short 4 week Barrett (Australian Cattle Dog) has improved on walks and successfully had a play date with a friends puppy. I highly recommend Doggie Steps and Mark as your trainer.

Why Clients Keep Recommending Doggie Steps

A few patterns repeat across nearly every review: Mark responds quickly and personally, he explains the reasoning behind the training rather than just issuing commands, and he gets real results with dogs other owners had started to feel hopeless about. That last point matters. Several of the reviews above describe dogs that were aggressive, anxious, or considered a lost cause before training, which lines up directly with Mark’s own specialty: roughly half of his total caseload is aggression or anxiety work.
